Senehase Nagam – Visit of the month of July

As a member of the Rotaract Club of  Faculty of Law,University of Colombo,I had the pleasure of visiting the Karuna  Elderly Care Home  for the first time under the project “Senehase Nagam”. Spending ample of time there, participating in joyful activities with the elderly residents was truly a heartwarming experience, brimming with compassion. While I had visited elderly care homes in the past, this marked my very first encounter within the context of my university life.

Upon entering the Karuna Elderly Care Home, I was profoundly moved by the residents’ warmth and friendliness. This peaceful haven is dedicated to caring for elderly individuals without families and emanates a sense of tranquility and calm. It also serves as a venue for religious practices, highlighting the dedication of various spiritual leaders to the residents’ well-being. Interacting with these seniors allowed us to engage in pleasurable moments filled enjoyment , fostering meaningful connections and infusing their lives with happiness and companionship. The heartwarming smiles on their faces were a testament to the fulfillment we experienced as we briefly eased their burdens and listened to their life stories with compassion.

During our visit, we were consistently touched by the gratitude and well-wishes expressed by the elderly residents. They epitomize the essential values of love, compassion, kindness, and empathy that our society needs. Separated from their families for various reasons, these individuals truly deserve our support, and it is an honor for us to lend a helping hand in any way we can.

As a Rotaractor, I reflect on this first visit to the elderly care facility with cherished memories of the bonds we created, alongside a strong commitment to return and reconnect with them in the future. I genuinely look forward to continuing my involvement in initiatives like these. I am deeply thankful to all of you for giving me the chance to be part of such a meaningful project.
