As a member of the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo I had the opportunity to participate in the part of the “Senehase Nagam” project.
It was our January monthly visit to a special education school , and it turned out to be an incredibly rewarding and eye-opening experience. This visit not only allowed me to interact with children in a meaningful way, but it also showed me how important such programs are in building stronger, more inclusive communities.
Nawodaya special school is dedicated to helping children with special needs, and it was inspiring to see how they’ve created an environment where every child can thrive, regardless of their challenges. The children are divided into several classes, each with specially made activities and support to meet their specific needs.
During our visit, we had the chance to interact with the kids through a range of fun and engaging activities. One of the activities that stood out was the creative session, where we helped the children with drawing and crafting. It was amazing to watch how each child approached the activity. It was clear that these activities helped the children not only express themselves but also build confidence in their skills.
The children’s reactions were priceless. You could see the joy in their faces as they shared their creations with us. It made me realize how small gestures, like taking the time to engage with them and offer treats, can have a lasting impact. One of the most touching moments was when we gave out treats something as simple as a snack made the kids so happy, and their smiles said it all.
This visit to the Nawodaya special school was truly a heartwarming experience that I will never forget. It reminded me of the power of kindness and the joy that comes from giving back. It’s not just about making a donation or sending help. it’s about creating meaningful connections with people who need it most.
